Road Trip !

So, after 3 years 4 months and 5 days the roadster was registered and on the road for real.

The first on-ramp to the TransCanada Highway...will she make it? Will she make it back?

Uh, I think the gas goes in here and the explosion happens here and the hamsters run around here!!

Here we are in Morley, outside of town on the 1A Highway between Calgary and Canmore. This was the first trip for the roadster where I tried out all 5 gears in the transmission. John and Natalie were keen on going west and having some like minded companions.

At the Canmore Nordic Centre with John's Coupe and the roadster

We had a great drive out to Canmore in the bright sunshine and made it back without too much problem...it's amazing, the car runs and drives like a car.

More photos- steady progress

I have been steadily working on getting the vehicle ready for inspection. Some final finishing to be done, but all in all looking better than expected.

Spent last weekend instally a RaceDeck floor and I think it makes the garage look good and the vehicle look great.

New photos of progress

Some more photos as I move slowly to the completion.

Unfortunately, some of the parts that came three years ago are MIA, or I have strategically placed in a location only known to me (from three years ago). Did I mention that my memory is not as good as it was in the last decade.

I also had the unfortunate experience of tapping one of the screw holes for the sun-visor and realizing that this is similar to taking a window breaking tool to a piece of glass. Only after I created the crack in the windshield did I realize that I could have mounted the visors on the trim rails...not in the instructions...and another reason not to read the instructions.

More to come as I move forward.

Body Painted and Installed

Yesterday spent the afternoon at RC Speedpaint with Ralph putting on the body, doors, hood and trunk. Dino, one of the Roadster owners also came over to lend a hand. There are still quite a few things that need doing, but finally, it looks like car. There are some clearance issues and funny contours that weren't there before the body came off the chassis, but surprisingly most things are fitting pretty close.

I can hardly wait to get the rest of the trim and dress-up stuff installed...and then get it inspected and licenced.

Soon, very soon.

Paint...paint..paint

The body is done! Thanks to Ralph at RCSpeedpaint.

It looks great!!! Just a little longer and the body will meet the rest of the vehicle.

A milestone day

I didn't plan to post only once every six months or so, but with my pace of building this vehicle, that may be the only way to get new information with each post.

However, there has been appreciable progress over the last few months. Let's see:

1. Most of the mechanical and electrical system has been completed.

2. The interior carpet and console has been finished.

3. I have an Alberta assigned VIN...so the vehicle is a real vehicle...but not registered.

4. The vehicle is being painted today (February 10, 2013) by Ralph at RCSpeedpaint and should be ready for the chassis/body mating ritual in the next week or ten days.

5. I found out that the new regulations in Alberta require that the vehicle have a full "salvage" inspection to ensure roadworthiness and safety, as compared to the past "Out of Province" inspections.

6. Bill, one of the FFcars forum members, and an experienced builder(2 roadsters so far) came over and had a look at my chassis and had some good suggestions.

So, looks like this baby will be on the road this summer!

Next update will be the completed painted body on the chassis.
